Sore Eros "Just Fuzz"

Sore Eros has a history of balancing tendencies towards both pop songwriting and Western Massachusetts style experimentalism. Both sides of the band are majestically displayed on their newest work, Just Fuzz. The band recorded this mini-album while snowed in at a studio in Vermont during the early months of 2011, venturing out for drunken walks through the snow between takes. From “Buzz Stew” through “Sunset Eyes,” One of the band’s strengths is the ability to draw the listener in and suddenly switch ideas completely to something even more enticing. This record is a step forward for Sore Eros, seeing them use new sounds and aural sweetening without losing the raw honesty that made albums like Second Chants and Know Touching so exciting. Sore Eros continues to prove that they sit atop the overstuffed pile of modern psychedelic pop by breaking conventions and crafting songs with care.

Sleep In Sundays "Okay"

"Okay" has been an ongoing project that has lasted almost four years. Sleep In Sundays wrote the first songs for the album when he was sixteen years old, deep in the thickets of adolescence. These 18 songs detail relatable hardships of growing into one’s life and the reluctant acceptance of inevitable change. Suburban field recordings provide a backdrop for many of the songs, from rain on a roof to crickets and cicadas to a commonplace answering machine message. For Sleep In Sundays, home recording is an art form in and of itself. This record challenges listeners to experience nostalgia not as an idealized remembrance of the past, but as a painful process of discovering where we come from and how we have become ourselves. Sleep In Sundays guides us through this journey with soft guitars and even softer vocals that reveal subdued sadness and renewed hope. CD.

Sweet Bulbs "Sweet Bulbs"

Sweet Bulbs’ self-titled debut album is all about intensity. Although on the surface their saccharine pop marinating in warm distortion seems a well-worn combination, the band possesses something that sets them apart from many of their fellow Brooklynites. Guitarist Mike Sheffield provides the perfect foil for Inna Mkrtycheva's vocal melodies, injecting each song with vital discord and dissonance. Ray Weiss hits his drums with a masterful blend of wildness and precision, while Jack Wolf’s bass adds countermelody and fuzz. This record is loud and forceful, yet nimble and well crafted. As Sweet Bulbs barrels forward the hooks come with head-spinning frequency, far outpacing whatever your last favorite band was. There is nothing "chill" about Sweet Bulbs, and thank God for that. LP comes with a full color poster.

Mountainhood "The Boat-maker's Daughter"

The Boat-Maker's Daughter is a record about transition and transformation. It is an expression of total breakage from all prior forms of thought and action--your parents, your government, your faith--and blazing a new path through doomsday to the other side. The songs range from the quiet, fragile, and distant "Geodesic Dome, Oregon" to the anthemic folk sing-along of "Jaine," one of the most accessible songs in the Mountainhood catalog. With The Boat-Maker’s Daughter, Mountainhood has transformed and shed much of the tape hiss that defined his earlier recordings, and let these very special songs of rapture shine through. This is not only a singular release for Hilde, but for the entire psych-folk genre. Poster designed by Hilde included.

Sore Eros Taal Compass 7"

Psych-pop masters Sore Eros return with a brand new single on Blackburn! Both “Taal Compass” and b-side “Wide Open” (which features space age post-punk hero Gary War on synths) are slow burners that reveal an understated majesty, but their style and execution suggest wildly different mindsets. The title track is plaintive, with songwriter and lead man Robert Robinson’s vocals emerging organically from the analog distortion that coats the song. Flip the record over for an atmospheric epic that builds gracefully to an overwhelming crescendo that certainly earns the name “Wide Open.”

Big Troubles Freudian Slips 7"

The debut EP from New Jersey's Big Troubles displays the duo at their most raw, crafting instantly catchy songs and covering them with distortion and reverb. The songs on this EP were some of the first the band recorded during the summer of 2009 in Ian’s basement, surrounded by guitars, a multitude of pedals, a drum machine, and a 4-track. Leading off with an alternate version of "Freudian Slips," this EP is bound to please fans of the current lo-fi wave as well as those who are old enough to remember the first generation of shoegaze bands.

Edition of 350. Sold out.
